THE FLIEGER-PELZSTIEFEL, OR FLIGHT BOOT
German development of flight boots appears to have lagged somewhat behind that of other articles of flight clothing, as it was not until well after the institution of the Luftwaffe that the first flight boots proper were introduced, although a special overboot appears to have been developed during the heyday of the DLV. From photographs depicting the Fliegerschaft, it is clear that the DLV's flying personnel wore a wide assortment of military boots and civilian footwear.
Although by 1937 the general appearance and design of the German flight boot was set, both technological innovation during the war and ongoing efforts to conserve war materiel served to produce a wide variety of specimens available to collectors today, though certainly not as diverse as other types of clothing.
