Manufacturers of German flight clothing utilized a wide variety of buttons over the period of 1935-1945, employing materials ranging form horn, composition, plastic, and metal.  Starting in 1944, manufacturers employed buttons to replace snaps, or pop studs, in order to save expenditure of strategic material.
