Background

As the militaria collecting hobby enters the new millennium, an almost endless stream of variations in Luftwaffe flight gear is available to collectors today. As would be expected with any wartime equipment, the continual changes in the configuration of flying clothing led to a multitude of materials and construction features- in short, a state of affairs which today makes the amassing of a comprehensive collection of Luftwaffe flight clothing almost an impossibility. The scarcity of this clothing and equipment works an additional hardship, in that it makes the systematic study of the subject material particularly difficult.

Until recent years, collectors have understood little regarding the technological advances and changes in the Luftwaffe's flying clothing. Groundbreaking research and works resulting from that research- notably those of Angolia & Schlicht (Uniforms & Traditions of the Luftwaffe), Skötte (German Luftwaffe Flight Headgear of World War II), and Prodger (Luftwaffe vs. RAF)- have provided collectors with not only the tools to understand the technological development of German flying clothing from World War II, but also have provided a heretofore unavailable "curator's view" of equipment and flight gear.

While this site is certainly not intended to replace the celebrated works noted above, it is hoped that the material presented herein will augment and amplify the research and documentation presently in place. If this site serves to advance the understanding of German flight clothing within the Luftwaffe collecting community, and further, to increase that community's appreciation for the incredible variety of clothing in collections and on the market today, the author's labors will be well invested.

Intended Scope

Eventually, this site will encompass a complete range of Luftwaffe flight clothing and gear, within the limits of the author's capabilities.

Invitation to the Collecting Public

Luftwaffe collectors from the world over are invited to comment on the site, make suggestions, and, most importantly, to provide material for the forum.  Kindly e-mail the site administrator at the following address:
